Water in the most essential resource on this earth as life exists on earth because of water being such a precious resource it is necessary for us to use the water judiciously .Rain water harvesting is actually a method which helps us to conserve rain water and it prevents the wastage and unnecessary  flow of rain water .Rain water harvesting in modern time plays an extremely essential role in our day to day lives.

Rain water harvesting can be of different forms in different parts of the country .The most common form of rain water harvesting can be seen at numerous places that is to collect the rain water in large tanks that are built above houses. the water collected above in tanks are sent down through PVC pipes and are attached to the tubewells,from where water can be drawn out. The water in tubewells come after filtration which occurs through passing of water through coarse sand and gravel inside the soil .This rain water is completely purified and fresh. If such rain water harvesting systems are used in every household , then we will be able to curb the problem of water scarcity to a large extend .In some states like Tamil Nadu ,it is almost compulsory to have such water harvesting Systems . Other methods of water harvesting can be seen through small check dams and stop dams which are generally built near lakes or ponds to prevent the flow of water.

Digging large pits to collect rain water - near houses is also a form of rain water harvesting  Such hugs pits take form of small ponds and lakes. These hugs water pits prove to be extremely useful for maintaining the ground water level and even the temperature of the atmosphere. Along with that they provide us a scenic beauty also.

Rain Water harvesting is of great importance in today's life where water scarcity in emerging as a big problem .Rain water is supposed to be a very fresh source of water and its judicial use can help us to fight against water scarcity .Apart lakes from the water scarcity problem ,it is necessary to maintain the ground water level and temperature .Small ponds and lakes can be very helpful for this purpose   Inspire of having such numerous benefits .rain water harvesting is still confined only to some house. It is nesessary for us to conserve water as soon as possible because life on earth has only been possible due to water.
